Moisture Management

Moisture is the second source of issues in regards to problems in abrasive blasting and loss in efficient productivity behind insufficient air supply. “Wet” air causes flash rusting, clogs blast equipment with damp abrasive, damages control valves and reduces productivity. Moisture is present even in dry conditions.

Moisture Management systems and specially Schmidt® AirPrep™ systems have documented increased production of 12-15% are designed and manufactured to help maintain and promote productivity in your blasting system and feature negligible pressure drops. At minimum, a moisture separator should be used on all blast equipment, if not a high volume moisture separator or better.

Listed Below are some options available:

General Purpose Moisture Separators:

Standard in-line moisture separators installed on blast equipment the provide general purpose moisture filtration. Available in 3/8”, ½”, ¾”, 1”, 1-1/4”, 1-1/2” or 2” NPT Threads.

Schmidt® High Volume Moisture Separators:

Helps reduce the amount of moisture in the blasting system, for smoother flow of abrasives and reduced contamination of controls. Suitable for drier, more arid environments where the level of performance offered by an AirPrep™ Aftercooler or Air Dryer may not be needed. These units have a Stainless Steel Coalescent Element that resists rusting due to moisture compared to counterparts out in the market.

Available in 800 CFM or 1600 CFM Stationary and Portable units, with and without fittings.

Schmidt® Aftercoolers (ACS):

Designed for high efficiency removal of moisture, resulting in cool, clean and dry compressed air for use in High-performance abrasive blasting equipment. If your blasting operation or jobsite is in a region where there is not a big difference in the daily high and low temperatures, an aftercooler may be sufficient to handle the moisture in your blast system. Note: sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) applications most often require the additional drying capabilities of an air dryer for best performance.

Maximum Working Pressure: 150 psig at 250 °F (10.3 bar at 121 °C)
Minimum Operating Temperature: 35 °F at 150 psig (1.7 °C at 10.3 bar)
Moisture Removal: Stainless steel coalescent filter

Features:

  • High performance systems
  • Inlet prefilter removes oil, debris and contaminants

Additional Features:

  • Compact, vertical air flow design to improve efficiency
  • Pneumatic fan motor. Includes filter, regulator, lubricator and muffler (electric fan available)
  • Protective bar grating
  • Portable or stationary units
  • Easy transport. Skid mounted (excludes portable options) with forklift pockets and full load lifting eyes

Available in a number of sizes including 250 and 400 CFM portable units, 400, 750, 950, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 2500 CFM Skid Mounted units. Units available with Electric Fan as option.

Schmidt AirPrep

Schmidt® Deliquescent Air Dryers (ADS):

Designed for maximum performance to handle high humidity environments or offer a higher level of moisture removal for critical applications. If your blast operation or jobsite is in a region that experiences wide differences in the daily high and low temperatures, an air dryer is a must to handle the moisture generated in these environments. An air dryer is usually recommended for sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) applications.

Maximum Working Pressure: 150 psig at 250 °F (10.3 bar at 121 °C
Minimum Operating Temperature: 35 °F at 150 psig (1.7 °C at 10.3 bar)
Moisture Removal: Deliquescent tablets (not included) with glass marble bed

Features:

  • Maximum performance systems for maximum air treatment
  • Ideal for high humidity environments or when moisture removal is critical
  • Multistep filtration: inlet filter captures debris, outlet filter screens errant small particles
  • Built to last—hot-dipped galvanized to prevent internal rusting Additional Features:
  • Compact, vertical air flow design to improve efficiency
  • Pneumatic fan motor. Includes filter, regulator, lubricator and muffler (electric fan available)
  • Protective bar grating
  • Portable or stationary units
  • Easy transport. Skid mounted (excludes portable options) with forklift pockets and full load lifting eyes

Deliquescent Tablets: 50 lbs/bag sold separately.

Available in a number of sizes including 250 and 400 CFM portable units, 400, 750, 950, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 2500 CFM Skid Mounted units. Units with Electric Fan available as an option.

LaMan® Extractor/Dryer®

The patented Extractor/Dryer® is a two-stage, point-of-use compressed air filter. Designed primarily for the final usage of air, it will remove water, oil and other contaminates from compressed air lines. The Extractor/Dryer was developed for air driven tools, paint spraying, manufacturing equipment or any other compressed air equipment to produce clean, dry compressed air. In return you receive extended equipment life, improved product quality, reduced downtime, and savings on costly repairs to damaged equipment. These advantages will pay for themselves in a short amount of time.

Standard Features include:

  • Differential Pressure Gauge (All models except 520's and 195A) - Allows the user to visually see the change from green to red, indicating a pressure drop of 10 PSI or greater you will need to service the elements. Service Kits available for all models
  • Weep Drain - Allows minimal, continuous flow of contaminated air to escape the base of the unit.
  • Mounting Brackets (All models except 520's and 195A) - Allows for easy and protective mounting of your Extractor/Dryer.

Point-of-Use:

La-Man® takes a different approach to cleaning up contaminated compressed air lines. Our Extractor/Dryer provides the best service when it is located at the point-of-use in an application. This allows the air from the compressor to cool, thus condensing to liquid and enabling the Extractor/Dryer to remove moisture from compressed air lines. The shortest distance from our filter to the point-of-use ensures cleaner air, therefore protecting valuable machinery and equipment.

Additional Features- Benefits

  • Models range from 15 SCFM thru 2,000 SCFM
  • Standard 5 micron ratings (lower micron rating available)
  • Removes 99.9% of the liquids entering the Extractor/Dryer
  • Easy to install and maintain without removal from air line
  • Lightweight aluminum housing
  • Immediate cost savings from decreased downtime
  • Standard inlet and outlet NPT sizes
  • Improve equipment performance and product quality
  • Standard Differential Pressure Gauge for rust and dirt particles
  • Additional options available: float drain, regulator and electronic drain. Video Link: http://www.laman.com/video
